IS MY CHILD ENTITLED TO RECIEVE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT IN SCHOOL?
Your child may be entitled to receive accommodations or modifications from the school in order to 'level the playing field'. This will require meetings with a variety of school personnel. I will make sure you are fully prepared for any meeting you have with the teachers, administrators, or any other staff members involved. You will know the verbiage which might be used. You will know what you can ask for, what you can insist upon, what you cannot insist upon, your legal rights, and what you need to do to get the help your child needs. You will feel confident going into that meeting to accomplish your goals. Below are some of the questions you might have. You will know all the answers.
What services can be provided by the school?
How do I go about getting any available services?
What would my child be entitled to receive (accommodations or modifications)?
What is a 504 Plan?
What is an IEP?
Would a 504 or an IEP be helpful?
What is the process for getting a 504 or an IEP?
Do I have to pay for any evaluations which might be necessary?
If my child has a 504 or IEP, will it show on a transcript?
